Mark has extensive Internet engineering experience having started as a systems programmer at the University of Adelaide when the Internet was introduced to Australia via AARNet. He left the University to join connect.com.au, one of the first ISPs in Australia, and was responsible for engineering the Connect backbone. During this time he was heavily involved at the IETF with the routing policy working group and the development of the policy language RPSL. He was approached by AARNet to design and build a new greenfield national network to replace their existing network. This new network made extensive use of peering to control transit costs and improve performance. Most recently he held an Asia/Pacific business development role at Juniper Networks acting as a liaison between the sales team and members of the Research and Education community.
Mark is a director of AusNOG, which holds the premier network operations conference annually in Australia.
