Synopsis

This workshop will be delivered in conjunction with the KDDI Foundation and the University of Computer Studies, Yangon (UCSY).

Information Security is a broad topic, and as such this training course will look at several aspects from policies to penetration testing, and DNS to DDoS. Each topic is covered from basics to intermediate level that aims to educate and challenge participants.

 

Fees

APNIC has 10 complimentary places to offer at this workshop.

All travel and accommodation arrangements and costs are to be covered by the attendee.

A limit of 1 person per organization may be imposed.

 

Target audience

System Administrators, Engineers, IT Managers and Computer/Network Operators who are interested in information security, gaining an understanding of the threats they face and how to manage such threats.

 

Prerequisites

It is assumed that participants have a basic understanding of network operations and Internet technologies.

Each trainee is recommended to complete the APNIC Academy course on Introduction to Cybersecurity at https://academy.apnic.net before they attend.

Course outline

This training course will be delivered over 5 days, and will include a mix of theory presentations, hands-on exercises, and group discussions/Q&A.

  • Password Control – End-User Perspective
  • Password Control – Secure Server Side Storage
  • Insecure File Permissions
  • Network Intrusion Detection Systems (with Snort)

Other requirements

Participants are advised to bring their own laptop computers with high-speed Wi-Fi (802.11a/g/n/ac) and administrative access to system. It is also recommended that laptops have Intel i5 or i7 processor, >=4GB of RAM, 30GB of free hard disk space, and a 64-bit operating system (Windows, Linux, or Mac OS X).

Participants are requested to enable Virtualisation Options in the BIOS, and pre-install VirtualBox (free), or VMware Workstation (paid or trial).  VirtualBox installation files will be available at the beginning of the course if needed
