APNIC conducts training in Mandalay and Yangon, Myanmar
APNIC Training Team made the very first visit to Mandalay, the second-largest city in Myanmar for a series of training activities during 13 - 18 December 2013.
APNIC Training Manager, Champika Wijayatunga and Senior Training Coordinator, Wit Hmone Tin Latt were in Mandalay to conduct these training sessions and participate in various collaborative meetings with a number of local training providers, academic and government institutions and professional organisations in the country.
The event in Mandalay started with an educational seminar titled 'Internet Fundamentals' in collaboration with the Myanmar Computer Professional Association (MCPA) on 14 December. The seminar was inaugurated by Mr. Hla Kaung, President of MCPA Mandalay and attended by 70 participants from the local Internet community. Following this seminar, two other technical tutorials on 'IPv6 Essentials' and 'Network Security' were conducted with the support of the Thit Sar Yar Zar Training and Development Centre during 16 - 17 December. These tutorials were attended by 38 participants from IT services companies, ISP and academic institutions. After the successful completion of these tutorials, APNIC received more training requests and we hope to organise hands-on type workshops for the community in Mandalay in the near future.
Following Mandalay, Champika and Wit traveled to Yangon to offer more training activities to the Internet community in Yangon. The collaborative activities started with a visit to the Yadanarpon Teleport (YT) office on 20 December where an 'IPv6 Deployment' tutorial session was organised for a total of 21 network and system engineers. The visit was greatly appreciated by the community and the participant feedback has been very positive.
After this series of training activities the program was concluded with another educational seminar titled 'Internet Infrastructure Security: For Protection and Resilience' to a large group of Internet professionals in Yangon. The seminar was hosted by the Yangon Region Computer Professionals Association (YRCPA) and attracted by about 75 attendees from Telcos, ISPs, government and IT institutions as well as interested individuals. Mr. Min Oo President of YRCPA delivered the opening remarks highlighting APNIC's services in the Asia Pacific region, training profile and contribution to the Myanmar Internet community ever since 2009. The first APNIC training in Myanmar was conducted in Yangon in 2009 with the support of Myanmar Computer Federation (MCF) and the Internet Education and Research Laboratory (intERLab) of the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand and since then APNIC organised a series of training activities every year in Myanmar with the support of Myanmar Computer Professionals Association (MCPA) Yangon, the Myanmar Posts and Telecommunications (MPT), the RedLink Communication and the Yadanarpon Teleport.
