PacINET 2013 in Tonga
APNIC continued support to PICISOC through various knowledge sharing activities during the PacINET 2013 Conference held in Nukualofa, Tonga from 9 to 13 September 2013.
The Event was inaugurated and the Opening ceremony speech was given by the Prime Minister of Tonga and Ministry of Information and Communications His Excellency Lord Tu'ivakano.
APNIC Senior Training Specialist Nurul Roman Islam and APNIC Pacific Liaison Officer / Senior Internet Resource Analyst Elly Tawhai were there to represent APNIC during this event. Elly's presentation highlighting the 'IPv4 exhaustion and IPv6 adoption: For future growth of the Internet' during the Keynotes section of the Conference attracted approximately 80 participants from various Pacific Islands such as Tonga, Nuie, Vanuatu, Cook Islands, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, and Kiribati.
As part of the PacINET 2013, APNIC offered two training activities to Network Operations professionals. The APNIC Routing Workshop and Network Security Tutorial conducted by Nurul also attracted 24 participants from various industry segments. The Routing workshop focused on both IPv4 and IPv6, and the participants configured various topologies to learn the skills on OSPF/ISIS and BGP Routing Protocols. The Network Security Tutorial focused on best current practices, establishing, and maintaining security for a network.
Given the demand for these sessions, APNIC Training team will continue to offer further training courses in the Pacific region.
